DAB+DAB+ is based on the original DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) standard, but uses the more efficient MP4 or AAC+ codec, whereas DAB uses the older MP2 format. This allows equivalent or better subjective audio quality to be broadcast at lower bit rates, thereby allowing more stations to be added to a “multiplex”—meaning greater listening choice for the consumer. Most countries offering DAB now provide a DAB+ broadcasting service.
DIDRCSince the advent of digital audio, signal-to-noise ratios have improved dramatically. However, the S/N ratio reflects static noise only, and takes no account of another type of noise that occurs as the byproduct of sound reproduction—dynamic noise. To reduce this type of noise, Pioneer has developed DIDRC technology for use in our hi-fi components. Despite being beyond the normal range of human hearing, frequencies above 100 kHz are susceptible to clock pulse and other forms of distortion from digital devices. Such distortion in the super-high-frequency range can generate “beat interference”, which in turn affects the character or atmosphere of the original sound. MHLMHL (Mobile High Definition Link) is an interface protocol allowing the connection of compatible portable electronic devices such as smart phones to A/V receivers. The protocol transports uncompressed 1080p video stored on smart phone for display on HDTV, with up to 7.1-channels of surround sound. On selected Pioneer network receivers, smart phones can be connected via a designated front-panel MHL/HDMI port. While officially ‘connection agnostic’, MHL cables commonly feature an HDMI plug and Micro USB connector. Once linked to an Pioneer network receiver, the user can control their smart phone using the system remote. Smart phones are recharged upon connection, and no separate power supply for the device is necessary while connected to the receiver.
MP3MP3 is a popular digital audio encoding and lossy compression format designed to greatly reduce the amount of data required to represent audio, yet still sound like a faithful reproduction of the original uncompressed source.
NetworkConnecting to your home network using a standard LAN cable, Pioneer network A/V receivers and network hi-fi components offer music streaming, internet radio, and access to PC-based audio with outstanding sound quality. Powered Zone 2Selected Pioneer network receivers feature Powered Zone 2. Two additional surround channels may be assigned to send an amplified audio signal via a set of cables to stereo speakers in another room. An audio source from the receiver may be played back in either or both zones, or two different audio sources played in either room simultaneously.
Powered Zone 3Seven-Channel Pioneer Network A/V Receivers
Seven-channel network receivers allow the Front Height and Front Wide channel outputs to be assigned to connect speakers in Zone 2 and Zone 3. Users may easily distribute powered audio to either Zone 2 or Zone 3 without having to change inputs, and retain a five-channel home theater system in the main room. Up to three different audio sources may be distributed to all three zones simultaneously with the addition of a stereo amp in either Zone 2 or Zone 3, and using a corresponding Zone 2/3 line-out.
Nine-channel Pioneer Network A/V Receivers
Nine-channel receivers are able to power Zone 2 and Zone 3 simultaneously using the four additional surround channel outputs, while retaining a five-channel setup for home theater. The user can distribute up to three different audio sources from the receiver across all three zones without the need for an additional stereo amplifier.
RDS (Radio Data System)Since 1987, this system has simplified the tuning of programming of an increasing number of radio frequencies. Incorporated into radio receivers, the system selects programs and displays them on the receiver’s alpha-numerical display. Also, a microprocessor enables the receiver to determine the transmitter frequency that gives the best quality reception.
RI (Remote Interactive)Pioneer's RI system lets you operate multiple RI-compatible components through a single remote control. RI capability also gives you further functionality with Pioneer's Remote Interactive Dock for the iPod, including System On/System Off, Auto Power On, Auto Selector (Direct Change) and Timer functions.
RIHDFor A/V receivers
Select Pioneer A/V receivers offer integrated system control with certain HDMI-compatible high-definition displays, DVD and hard-disk recorders, and Blu-ray Disc players. Super Audio CD - Precision ClaritySuper Audio CD is a read-only optical audio disc aimed at providing digital audio reproduction with much higher fidelity than on regular CDs. Based on a digital audio technology called Digital Stream Data (DSD), Super Audio CD employs a sampling rate 64 times faster than PCM CD.

THX I/S PlusTHX I/S Plus systems are ideal for small home theatres where the screen-to-seat viewing distance is approximately 2.5 meters. THX Ultra2When a home theater component receives THX certification, it is your guarantee that it will accurately present movies the way they were mixed by the filmmaker in the studio. In the case of THX Ultra2 certification—the ultimate benchmark for home audio performance—a power amplifier must offer high-quality, high-output performance for multichannel playback in large rooms. Among the strict criteria that THX uses for judging the quality of a power amplifier are measurements of continuous power output, distortion levels, and heat generation.

Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry (VLSC)Conventional D/A conversion methods reduce digital pulse noise at the conversion stage but can’t remove it completely. Previously only found on Pioneer's high-end components, VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry)employs a unique D/A conversion circuit to overcome this problem. Data is converted between sampling points and these points are joined with analogue vectors in real-time to produce a smooth output wave form. The result - a virtually noiseless, smooth analogue signal based on the digital source.
VL DigitalUp to now, pulse width modulation (PWM) has been used as an efficient method of amplifying audio signals. Theoretically, this method should result in accurate analog-to-digital conversion. In reality, “noise spikes” introduce errors into the inversion timing, making accurate conversion into pulse widths impossible. VL Digital works by charging and inverting analog input signals, and performing PWM proportional to the analog signal. The spike noise waveform is symmetrical, so the upper and lower portions of the waveform (their charge quantities) cancel each other out. This ensures accurate PWM at all times.
Windows Media Audio (WMA)A proprietary compressed audio file format developed by Microsoft. Copied to CD-R/CD-RW, they can be played through most audio systems.
WRATWRAT is based around a low negative-feedback circuit topology that works to reduce signal noise and distortion across the frequency range. A “closed ground-loop circuit” design is employed, in which each circuit has a separate link to the power supply. This helps to cancel individual circuit noise and keep the ground potential free of distortion. High Instantaneous Current Capability (HICC) enables WRAT amplifiers to immediately cancel the speakers’ reflex energy and instantaneously send out the next signal. The same high current better manages speaker impedance fluctuations, which can negatively affect performance.
Zone 2Pioneer A/V receivers feature a Zone 2 line-out that allows an audio source to be distributed to another room equipped with an amplifier and speakers. Users can play the same audio source in both rooms, or play different sources in both rooms simultaneously.
In addition to a Zone 2 line-out, selected Pioneer A/V receivers feature a Zone 3 line-out that allows an audio source to be distributed to a third room equipped with an amplifier and speakers. Users can play up to three audio sources across three zones simultaneously.
